The transfer window may have already closed earlier this week, but JustJoe Football Show presenter Joe Wainman believes Leeds United’s Adam Forshaw could have the same impact as a new signing after returning from injury.
A hip problem sustained two years ago resulted in Forshaw featuring just seven times as Leeds claimed the Championship title and sealed their return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.
The central midfielder, who has been restricted to just 53 appearances since joining the Whites in a £4.5million deal from Middlesbrough in 2018, then failed to make a first-team appearance in the entirety of last season as he continued to struggle with the injury.
However, the 29-year-old has returned to the fold this season and was back on the pitch for the League Cup win over Crewe Alexandra last month.
Former All Leeds TV anchorman Wainman believes Forshaw, who has entered the final 12 months of his £20,000-per-year contract, could have a big role to play this season as boss Marcelo Bielsa has sung his praises before.
He told Football FanCast: “I think he could be huge and maybe that was in the back of the club’s mind in the window. Maybe they thought they didn’t need to make a move for a central midfielder because if Forshaw is fit then we have what we need.
“Bielsa is a massive fan of his. Bielsa said, when he came, that he could play for a Champions League team.
“He would be huge for us and I hope he comes through unscathed because he would be a massive option for us.”
