da bet esporte: According to reports in the Daily Record, Leeds United are ready to follow up the imminent signing of Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Forshaw by launching a bid for Rangers attacker Josh Windass, who has scored 30 goals in 137 matches during his career according to Transfermarkt.
What’s the word, then?
da pixbet: Well, the Daily Record says that the Yorkshire outfit have joined Championship rivals Preston North End in the race to sign the 24-year-old, with the Lancashire club already having a £500,000 bid turned down this month.
The Daily Record reports that Leeds are willing to beat that offer, but they face a fight to prise the former Accrington Stanley man away from Ibrox and he is in no rush to leave the Scottish Premiership giants.
The report adds that Windass is hopeful that he will be offered a new deal by Rangers, but any discussions are unlikely to take place until after the transfer window slams shut.
How has Windass done this season?
The versatile attacker is enjoying a decent campaign with Rangers following a disappointing debut year with the club, and he has scored six goals and provided a further five assists in 20 Scottish top flight appearances this term.
Considering he only scored once last season his record in front of goal is certainly much-improved, while he has played in a variety of positions including left midfield, left wing, centre-forward and as a No 10 for the Scottish Premiership club.
Would he be a good signing for Leeds?
He certainly would be, if they can convince him to move back to England.
Windass has shown the ability he has with Rangers and with Accrington previously, where he scored 23 times and picked up 13 assists in 86 appearances before moving north of the border.
The fact that he can play in a number of attacking positions would certainly benefit Thomas Christiansen’s side in what is sure to be a busy end to the season as they look to push for a play-off spot, and his quality could help them a secure a top-six spot in May.
Will they get him?
Given Windass’ reported reluctance to leave Rangers it could be difficult, but Leeds are a big club and the 24-year-old may find it hard to turn down the chance to join them if he was given the opportunity.
