da prosport bet: The international break did not come at a great time for Arsenal who will have been eager to kick off their next fixture following their 5-1 dismantling of newly-promoted Fulham at Craven Cottage last time out.
That match marked both the finest result and performance of the Emery era to date and provided the latest instalment in the nine match winning run (all competitions) that the Gunners have been enjoying since their successive defeats – to Manchester City and Chelsea – in the opening matches of the new season.
However, the interlude came and many members of the Spanish coach’s first team squad jetted off to represent their nations. Optimism amongst the fanbase, though, has continued uninterrupted and the mood is extremely positive at the Emirates Stadium ahead of the visit of Leicester City on Monday night. Before the return of on-field action, though, Emery addressed the media.

What did he say?
As reported by Arsenal.com, in his pre-match press conference, Emery was asked about the winning run, his impact at the club, and whether or not he has instilled a winning mentality in the squad:
“After winning six games in the Premier League, we need to continue to be demanding in each match and think about the next match as the most important.”
“I think we need to improve a lot. I think we have to continue doing a lot of the things to get better. Our demands need to be very high. The supporters can enjoy it with us but also we’re speaking with our reality every day.”
“This is one process: to work every day and not the possibility to say now we have a winning mentality. We need to continue improving, continue creating in our way. The strong mentality is [to show] each minute, each ball, each moment of the 90 minutes to show every supporter we are deciding to win with our example on the pitch. We need to give every action with that mentality. This process is very hard, very long and this is the way to do it together.”
What did he really mean?
Emery’s message here is somewhat guarded but still relatively clear.
Taking on the Arsenal job after Arsene Wenger’s 22-year reign in North London was a huge undertaking and the road the club must take to return to their former heights is long. A good run of form at this early juncture is of course a positive thing, but it doesn’t change the fact that the club still have a long way to go to catch up with the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool.
Emery will be acutely aware that he cannot afford for any complacency to set in amongst his squad or staff, therefore, his message here is partially directed to them. His comments to the world’s media serve as a reminder to the players that he shall continue to demand more of them.
Addressing those in the stands
Equally, this was a message to the club’s fans too. It is vital that the club’s supporters stand by Emery when results drop off – as over the course of the season, they inevitably shall to some extent.
As he said, the “process is very hard, very long and this is the way to do it together.” Of course he wants the fans to celebrate the success, but this was a gentle reminder that this is just the beginning of a journey; there will be bumps in the road and his side are by no means yet the finished article.
