After being appointed as the permanent successor to Unai Emery in December, Mikel Arteta has enjoyed an impressive start to his managerial career at Arsenal.
The Spaniard has lost just the once, whilst he has also picked up a notable win over rivals and fellow top-four contenders Manchester United on New Year’s Day. Since his arrival, the former Gunners midfielder has preached ideals of commitment and passion, and in The Athletic’s Ornstein and Chapman podcast, David Ornstein has provided a fascinating insight into the new training regime under Arteta.

He said: “There was one player I heard about who was explaining how hard training is. Not just the demands on the players that Arteta is putting on them for matches, but training is said to be absolutely exhausting. Training has been very intense, incredibly tactical is the word that’s coming out.”

And after hearing about how Arteta has looked to change things in his initial few weeks at the Emirates, Arsenal fans flooded to Twitter to voice their thoughts on the matter, with many critical of the club’s previous managers.
A couple of fans however raised concerns that they had heard all this before when Emery was first in charge.
A few fans were quick to praise the influence of Arteta, with one supporter in particular claiming that the Spaniard “isn’t here to play with anyone”.
Whilst performances and results on the pitch are ultimately what matters in football, the tweaks that Arteta is said to be making will no doubt go a long way to improving the players’ mentality. Ensuring that they work hard and never once drop their levels will see it eventually be translated in the heat of the battle, and so whilst training is said to be exhausting and taxing now, the rewards will be evident in the long-term.
Meanwhile, Arsenal may regret potential decision to send starlet on loan for the rest of the season.
